30 Day Drive: Big Step For Me

Yes today was a day that many never thought would never come, anyone who knew me well prior to my Original Cancer Series would have said this day would never happen. They would tell you how this act is less likely than sunshine for any major out door event in Newfoundland, it’s less likely than heat in January, it is less likely to happen than seeing Geoff Eaton dressed as a lady (on any other day outside of Halloween), this one event is so rare that it had never happened before, until today.

I can’t over-state the significance of what just happened about 30 minutes ago here at the Ottawa General Hospital… I won’t keep you in suspense any longer I will just say a couple of words – Needle, Give, Myself!!

Yes today I actually stepped up to the plate and gave myself a needle. I held that sharp device in my right hand, marked my spot on my stomach to the right of my belly-button, and then I stabbed down and shot the liquid in me. I’m due a needle every day that is designed to help my liver avoid clots which is a side-affect of the Busulfan I’m taking 4 times daily. One of my nurses explained to me that I could have a break from the hospital if I learned to give the needle myself, so because that was the only thing standing in my way of having a day off tomorrow (Saturday), I figured that I was up for the Challenge and it was about time I take this step. So a short while ago I stepped up and shot myself. It was a piece of cake, honestly, but I can tell you if I were to try any such trick 3 years ago on this date – prior to my diagnosis – I would have dropped to the floor as soon as I took the cap off the needle. But not today, no sir, I was cool, calm and collected. So much so that I’m confident I’ll be up for the Challenge again tomorrow.

Not sure I’m ready to make this a career yet, or anytime soon, but I do think I’ve just opened up some new doors that were closed to a person who say.. hasn’t given themselves a needle!! haha.

Hope this message finds you well, and that you are getting ready to have a fantastic Thanks Giving Weekend. I won’t guide you in in any specific direction regarding giving thanks this weekend, but you can count on me sharing some of the reasons why I’ll be giving thanks. Have a great weekend and I’ll be back again soon.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.

Geoff
