What is The Climb?

Each fall Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) supporters climb stairs, hills, and even mountains all over the world! Climbs celebrate the never give up spirit that is core to YACC's initiatives and raise money to fund YACC's support programs for young adults with cancer in Canada.

This year, YACC dedicates The Climb to all of our young adult cancer friends who are no longer with us but who will remain with us in spirit. We invite you to dedicate your climb in memory, or in honor of, a family member or friend.

Why should I do it?

The easy answer is to raise money for Young Adult Cancer Canada's support programs but in truth everyone has their own reason for climbing. Some climb in support or in memory of a friend or family member. Some compete for the Champions' banner with their school. Some just love the scenery and social interaction. It's also good exercise! Whatever your reason, we count on your support and can't wait to see you there.

What types of payment do you accept?

We take VISA, Mastercard, cash, and cheque. Please make cheques payable to Young Adult Cancer Canada.

Why should I raise money?

Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) is the only national registered charity in Canada committed to supporting young adults with cancer. Currently there are only eight young adult support groups in the whole country, compared to 23 adult support groups in Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto alone.

We know cancer is different for young adults so it just makes sense that life is too. YACC offers cost-free support programs to young adult survivors and supporters and raises most of its funding for these programs at events like this; receiving no government funding. So come out and support the cause!

Can my school get involved?

Absolutely! We'd love to see representatives from every school and post-secondary institution in the area. A Champions' Banner is presented each year to the school that gets the most students out to climb.

Are there prizes to be won?

A Champions' Banner is presented each year to the school that gets the most students out to climb. Last year's winner was Holy Heart of Mary High School with 87 students participating. A prize will also be awarded to the top pledge earner and climbers raising $500 or more in pledges will all receive a special YACC Climb shirt!

What if I can't attend?

We will definitely miss you. But don't worry! If you can't climb in St. John's or just can't make this date, you can get your friends, family and/or co-workers involved by organizing your own Climb in your community. It's super easy and we've got the process all mapped out for you. Just email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.

*T-shirts guaranteed for first 500 participants only
