Hey guys!! Not sure if you all pay attention to my message subjects but I usually try to tell you some of the reason I am writing, thought I’d mention it because…
We do have some movement on the blood levels!! My platelets have started to rise on their own, no more transfusions at least not for a while which is fine by me, and my hemoglobin is steady just above the transfusion cut-off line of 80, 10 points higher than at home. But the real news is my white cells have started to move, in the past couple of days they’ve hung around 0.2, which I didn’t pass on as I decided I wasn’t happy with that level. They stayed at 0.2 for a few days and have moved up 0.1 each of the last two days to stand at 0.4 today. That is my total white cell count, and as in the past my Neutrophils are the key component of my white cell count and yesterday they were 0.1. The Neutrophils count isn’t taken every day when your counts are as low as mine but that should change soon hopefully. As my counts rise we are looking for me to have a Neutrophil count of 0.5 for two consecutive days as at that time I will come out of isolation!
At this point it is uncertain when that will happen, but be assured that I am on the bike several times a day and am feeling really well otherwise, especially in relation to my neighbours. I have heard two stories of people having their counts come back well above acceptable levels but not being able to go home for other reasons. One lady, my neighbour hasn’t been able to eat while another man couldn’t even smell food without getting sick, so I am fortunate to say the least. I have been eating small amounts for a while and just a few hours ago I was unhooked from my IV food line as well as my other IV line used primarily for hydration. I performed the procedure myself and have had a smile on my face ever since as this is the first time in 26 days that I am not hooked up to a pole and pump. It will be so nice to shower by myself!! (It doesn’t actually come IN the shower with me, it just stands there outside the curtain motionless beeping every now and then, but I have caught it sneaking a look when I reach for the towel) No more of that for awhile.
I think that is all I have to report, no real abstract views of the world today, or motivational speeches, I’ll save whatever thoughts I have in my head for the Victory Party, which I visualize more and more everyday.
