Day 82 – Thinking about heading home

Hey there everyone, figured I would touch base as it has been a while. Nothing new from here other than I am continuing to feel well, my energy is as volatile as ever and my head has been in Wonderland for a considerable amount of time lately. Other than that things are going well. No real plans for heading home yet, but I will begin that process today as the pending Air Canada flight attendant’s strike may cause some problems.

I am back at PMH in two days for what may be my final clinic appointment for a while, my gut says everything will be fine although having been away from hospital for 6 days I will remain “cautiously optimistic”. Assuming things continue in their current direction, i.e. as long as my white cells and platelets are rising, I will get the green light to head home.

So far the Doc’s explanation for my level’s dropping was a drug called Septra, which I haven’t taken for over 3 weeks, but it can play games with your blood levels Post-Transplant. Outside of that, the unknown we had a couple of weeks ago remains an unknown, which is par for the course as the body is a pretty complicated contraption. The infection, CMV, and GVHD concerns have faded but not disappeared as they will be a potential problem for a little while longer. But to this point they have not been present in any of the extensive testing performed, so as I mentioned a time ago the “unknown” we were dealing with certainly appears to have been nothing major. My gut said that my rygers were due to fatigue, the drop in my levels I didn’t have a feel for, so we waited and here we are, some patience and they returned to some acceptable level in fairly short time.

I am beginning to grow eager but my enthusiasm remains in check, to this point. We’ll see how long I can keep it under control. I’ll be in touch with first news and my travel plans.

Take care,
Geoff
