Defy Adventures – Peru Trip

Here at YACC we are blessed to connect with young adult survivors (and patients) from across Canada, and there is a growing number of them who are taking steps to start their own initiatives to help young adults with cancer.  We’re jacked to bring them to you.  Below is some info about a new organization started by a young adult survivor.  Michael Lepage is the founder of Defy Adventures and he’s organizing a trip to Peru later this year, interested?  Check it out.
About Defy Adventures:
What’s next after cancer? The adventure of a lifetime!
On October 2, 2009, 12 young adult adult cancer survivors from across North America will converge in Lima, Peru to embark on an incredible expedition, symbolic of their journey through cancer.  Their goal: to support and inspire eachother’s ongoing healing while raising awareness for the unique challenges young adults face with a cancer diagnosis.  This 9-day expedition to mystical Peru will be a challenge worthy of their courageous spirit. These warriors will face the difficult mountain and jungle terrains of the Andes to summit at the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.  Each step taken together will be one toward wholeness and a life healed from cancer and its many wounds.
Defy Adventures’ mission is To help and guide young adult cancer survivors to heal deeply, break through the barriers of isolation that illness creates and live in their Higher Selves through challenging and inspiring adventures.
Defy Adventures (www.defyadventures.org) is announcing open registration for our first travel adventure for young adult cancer survivors – the Inca Trail, Peru!  The adventure of a lifetime!
Who are we? Defy Adventures is non-profit who focus is on helping young adults post-cancer through inspiring and challenging travel adventures!  We are out to raise your energy and evoke your spirit!
Why go on a travel adventure?  I’m a 9-year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and I know that after cancer, every moment is precious.  And I also know that it can seriously challenging to get your life moving in the right direction after cancer treatments.  So much has happened, so much has changed, but are you equipped to deal with it?  We need to wipe the slate clean and start fresh – inject some inspiration.  It’s time to do something that gets your juices flowing and your pulse pumping!
A great write once wrote “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”  Join us on the path to discovery.
Why Peru?  It’s mystical, it’s magical, it’s full of healing energy.  The Andes mountains are rich in ancient history and awesome views.
How much does it cost? To make this experience widely available, we’ll be fundraising… check out www.defyadventures.org/faq for more info.
How can I find out more?  www.defyadventures.org – read the FAQ or email [email protected].  I’m always open to a chat if you want to call me too.

About Michael: (also see here: www.lifeemerging.com/content/about-michael)
I’m a 9 year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  In my last year of University, I had a tumour the size of a grapefruit in my chest – I survived 16 chemos and 4 weeks of radiation.
In my life, cancer was a gift – it helped me truly understand who I am.  I forced me to dump a lot of baggage : friends of convenience, limiting beliefs, stuff that wasn’t important and bad relationships.  Cancer really opened my eyes.
