FAQ

What kinds of adventure activities and trips do you organize?

In the past, YACC Expeditions have taken groups of about 10 survivors and their supporters on eight-day kayaking trips in the Owyhee River in Oregon. We are currently reevalutating the program and are looking forward at offering more options for upcoming programs.

What are the criteria to come on an expedition?

It all depends on the expedition; because of the potentially intense nature of an expedition, it is important that you have a minimum level of fitness and have attended some sort of program where you've shared with other young adults about you cancer experience such as Retreat Yourself, the Survivor Conference, posting a profile, or being involved in Survivors In Action (SIA). Space on most expeditions is very limited so previous involvement will likely be taken into account.

How much does it cost to come on an expedition?

Participants will always be required to contribute or fundraise some of their own money in order to come on an Expedition in the form of a small deposit. This creates ownership and demonstrates intent to really get the most out of the program. If participants are not fully invested, there can be some negative consequences to the group and to the individual.

How far in advance do I have to sign up, and what is the process?

The summer Expeditions can fill up very quickly. To sign up you must first fill out an application form, have a quick phone interview with the program coordinator, and send in the deposit to save your spot. Once this is completed, you will receive a pre-trip package which includes an Expedition information form, medical information form, and waiver form which must be completed and sent back. Once this is done you can go ahead and book your flights.
