Graft vs. Host Disease: Good Looking Marrow

I spent most of my morning in hospital, getting some blood tested, doing a little visiting with a friend and seeing my Doc. I also managed to get some more of my “forward thinking” out in a readable format, a process that is therapeutic in itself. A part of my chat with my Doc included a discussion that I had viewed as a formality for the past week, it involved the results of my bone marrow test done last week. Prior to having it done my Doc communicated that it really was a routine test, a confirmation of what he was most definitely sure of, and I thought much along those lines as well. I wasn’t worried, or concerned about the results, nor was I impatient with waiting a week to get them. Having said that, it was really nice to hear that my marrow looks great.

There aren’t any big signs from my tests, nothing that may help predict my future on the good side or bad, nothing that would suggest I’d need more treatment, the reality is that there aren’t any tests to predict the future. But it is always a Positive sign when you hear that your marrow looks good, and that there is no detectable Leukemia.

As I said, prior to this morning I wasn’t worried about getting my test results back, I really did feel it was the formality my Doc and I discussed. But I was surprised with my insides when my Doc did tell me that my marrow looked good. It felt calm and relaxed, and I realized that no matter how much of a formality a given test may seem, whether it is a blood test, bone marrow test, whatever, it is always good to hear good things.

My marrow is looking good at this point, and at the same time it seems that my GVH has stepped up a notch. Nothing really serious, some stomach troubles, a renewed version of my rash, and my mouth continues to be super dry. In response to that I’ve increased the Prednisone a little, which will hopefully keep things under control, and today’s blood tests are great. Another collection of confirmations that things are flowing really well right now.

That’s the update for today, I’ll be back again soon.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.
