I’m OK

Hey there all, after a long day of traveling yesterday I’m feeling well rested, as I didn’t sleep a wink while in Toronto. I have made a profound discovery over the past few days… when you’re sick travelling sucks!! I must say it did drain my batteries, but they are on their way to being restored.

As for my check-up, everything went well. I saw many of the Dr’s and Nurses that cared for me during my 3plus months in Toronto, and they were pleased to see me. Unfortunately most of them didn’t know about my summer and were quite surprised to hear the news. It was really good to see those familiar faces. As for my visit with Dr. Lipton, he said everything is looking well, we are adjusting one of my medications that prevents CMV/pneumonia (spelling). As for the questions I had for him:

– Sun exposure? He said never for three really good reasons 1) exposure to the sun can induce Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease 2) a cause of pre-mature aging in transplant patients 3) a transplant increases risk of all forms of Cancer, and sun exposure increases Skin Cancers even more.

– Travelling? Outside of the Province it would be best for me to remain close to a hospital able to handle Transplant complications.

– Medic Alert ? I will wear my Medic Alert bracelet for the rest of my life.

– Next Check-up? I will most definitely go back close to the 1 year mark, in May of next year and after that it is up to me, but I will probably go once a year which seems to be pretty standard.

There you have it, that is my Toronto check update. Touch base if you wish.
