Today will be the last ‘anniversary’ email as it was on this day last year that the puck dropped, by brother, Slim, did the honours. We had the official face-off in my room, me with my game stick and the pole, that held my chemo, had a stick leaned against it. Needless to say the draw was an easy win for me, a far sight easier than Game 1 was, but we got a win and what an important win it was.

Today also happens to be the day before my birthday, and let me tell you I had no plans to be laid up in hospital having poison instead of beer and birthday cake on my 23rd. But as I have done many times since, I adjusted the bar. This day was the first day of 30 chemo days, I would have my last chemo in May after transplant.

After those 30 days I can honestly say that the only thing I miss about chemo, and the only benefit (besides the treatment) is that it leaves you completely hairless and I loved that!! Actually I really miss being hairless, especially being bald and am seriously considering shaving my head again sometime soon. So you know my hair has grown back a little different as it is now jet-black, it used to be brown. Still curly, may be a little more than it used to be but the major difference is the colour, which I really don’t like but am getting adjusted to. I’ll definitely keep the hair until the new year but after that we’ll see what happens.

This concludes ‘anniversary’ week, hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. I am glad that I was able to recall the events of this week one year ago, as they shaped my year, and for that matter have helped shape the rest of my life. There will be many other “anniversaries” as we continue to progress through this next year. I will highlight some, and others I may leave out.

It’s been a pretty amazing, interesting, challenging, scary, educational, and emotional experience we have shared over the past year, and as I said before I’m just glad to be here able to continue spilling my thoughts to you all. Enjoy as my best is yet to come,

Geoff
