That’s right, one year ago on this date, not day, I played my last game of hockey. It was with my regular Wednesday night bunch of guys except for some reason this week wasn’t regular. I had been on the ice the Saturday night before for one of the first times of the year thus my performance was less than par. I was slow and had a lot of trouble with my breath, as I was always out of it. Of course I chalked it up to poor conditioning as it had been about a month since I had done any real exercise, unless you count busting a move downtown.
The funny thing about this night, as I look back, is that me and three other guys stayed back in the dressing room for over an hour and a half, had a few beers and just chatted. This sounds pretty regular for a rec. hockey league but it was something that we rarely did, and especially not for that long. Hindsight would suggest that something was telling me that this was going to be my last time in a dressing room for a while.
