Localife Ottawa: Movie night

On June 15, Localife Ottawa went to watch one of the most anticipated young adult movies of  the year: The Fault in our Stars. The movie is based off the novel of the same name by author John Green.
Movie synopsis (taken from IMDB): Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. The movie starred two up an coming young actors: Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Augustus (Gus).
We were all prepared with our Kleenex for possible tears, however I think we were all surprised by how funny the movie was. There were numerous laugh-out-loud moments and many nuanced moments that only someone who has experienced cancer can understand. Also, even though the characters in the movie were a little younger than our demographic of 18-39, it was still very relatable. Overall the movie was great and was quite faithful to the source material.
We all had a great time at our first movie night and we’ll definitely be doing it again sometime in the future!
