“The sugar shack is a little old place where we can get together…”
On Sunday, March 30, one of the largest Localife Ottawa groups braved a new winter snowfall and went to Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm for a sugar shack pancake brunch.
Even though we’ve all had enough of winter, the snow added to the great atmosphere of the event. Really, who wants to be eating a pancake brunch at a sugar shack wearing shorts and a t-shirt?
For brunch we enjoyed an all-you-can-eat feast of pancakes, french toast, waffles, eggs, sausage and juice. Of course, we can’t forget the delicious, sugary maple syrup!
Having eaten our fair share of food, we trekked outside to explore the lands. Due to the perfect snowball making snow falling from the sky, we started an impromptu snowball fight as we made our way from the Pancake house to the sleigh ride. Yes, that’s right. We all hopped onto a sleigh pulled by a brother/sister horse team and got a relaxing, informative, and slightly bumpy ride through the maple farm.
We then headed over to the barn and took a look at the animals–cows, horses, pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and a kitten!
We finished the day with everyone’s favourite treat–maple taffy on snow. It was a great end to a wonderful event. With everyone on a sugar high, we all parted ways and said our goodbyes to our first spring event of the season…err…last winter event of the season?
We have the wheels in motion for our next event. Stay tuned for more information!
