Making some changes to YACC Expeditions

image

For the past two years, Mikey and Bonnie Lang have taken young adult cancer survivors on kayaking trips in Oregon under the Survive & Thrive umbrella. Now, since Survive & Thrive and our relationship with the Langs is changing, so will the program.
Young Adult Cancer Canada will continue to offer YACC Expeditions, outdoor adventure retreats that will take young adult cancer survivors outside of their familiar surroundings and into a challenging—yet immensely rewarding—environment.
We are already looking into ways to diversify the kayaking experience we have been fortunate enough to bestow on nearly 20 survivors and their supporters. We are lucky to live in such a vast and diverse country that offers opportunities around every corner from hiking to skiing, and everything in between. Keep your eyes on your inbox for more information as we develop it.
Mikey and Bonnie will continue to organize Survive & Thrive Expeditions through their other ventures, including a sailing trip planned for September 2011.
The potential for future collaborations is there and we’re sure Mikey and Bonnie will continue to be a part of our YACC family. We wanted to take a moment to explain the changes in case anyone was confused by the coexistence of two similar programs since you will surely hear about both opportunities in the future.
Until then, take chances and step outside your comfort zone a little closer to home! It’s rewarding to take a look back at those moments when you did things outside of the daily grind and lived a bit harder. To paraphrase the banner from Retreat Yourself 2009 that hung by my desk, you guys know how to live!
