Survivors and Patients: Thank You for Your Feedback!

I wanted to send a big shout out to all of you patients and survivors, along with all of you wonderful health care professionals out there that took the time to complete our survey before the holiday break! We know it was a busy time, but we managed to get some great responses! The surveys were completed by 73 patients and survivors and 30 health professionals.

Your feedback is critical to the development of our newest support program, our version of a survivorship care plan (for which a much cooler name is being developed as I type this!). If you are new to this program and want to know more about its development, check out a recent blog post about our survivorship care plan project!

Not only did I want to say thank you for your participation, but I also wanted to share some of the results with you. Some results were expected, while others were quite unique!

For example, of the survivors/patients who actually knew what a survivorship care plan was, only 4% ever used one! But over 63% of respondents said that they would be very likely to use an online care plan – phew! We didn’t want to develop this program for nothing!

Another interesting response was to the question that asked you to pick which topics you would like included in your plan. The following topics were rated at 70% or higher: Physical Health; Nutrition; Emotional Health; Medical Follow-up/Surveillance Plan and; Treatment after Effects. Some of the responses for ‘other’ were quite interesting as well, including such suggestions as, How to talk to your children; Family Planning; Sexual Orientation; Spiritual Support; Pharmaceuticals; and more.

There were some interesting results from the Health Care Professional survey as well. 100% of respondents said that they would promote the use of an online survivorship care plan to their young adult patients and colleagues, and 93% of respondents said that they would be willing to contribute time to help their patients build a plan! That is encouraging news!

As those of you who completed the surveys know, there were a lot of questions… so I can’t go through all of them now. But I did want to share some of them with you to let you know that your feedback was greatly appreciated! Now we can move forward with developing the web side of the tool.

This is not the end of your involvement! It is just the beginning! We will be soliciting your opinions throughout this entire process, so please keep an eye on our website for more requests for help to make sure you get your voice heard and help us develop a new, one of a kind, national program!

A huge thank you to all that participated from all of us here at YACC!
