Part 2 – Lets look at what’s important

Here I am for the second part of my “Important” mini-series, which will consist of 4 parts. I must also qualify my thoughts, which may or may not have done last time, as I really want you to know that I think these things apply in life continuously. Not just during times of challenge or sickness, as has been the case with me, I feel these “Important” elements are perhaps the keys to our game of life.

The next element that I want to discuss is… your support system – family and friends. As you all know I have had an incredible support system throughout my series. To my knowledge no team has ever enjoyed as much support or success, at home or on the road, as I have and it is an key component of why I’m here today. While it has been key in my fight for life I believe it can also be key for your success in any experience, personal or professional, health or sickness, all kinds. Without the support of family and friends we would not accomplish of the things we do, much less would we enjoy our accomplishments as much as we do. “Life’s pleasures are best when shared!” (you may remember my “lines, thoughts and other stuff” section, this line is something that comes from that collection of thoughts)

With respect to my series, the real reason for my success to date is unknown. Was it my medical team, my attitude, my will-to-win, my support network? Who really knows? But I do know that my success would not have come as it did without all of those elements contributing. An essential element of my success was my support system. They can’t fight battles but they can certainly influence how they are fought. It is that influence which places much emphasis on their position and makes it one of extreme importance. That said throughout my series, which I consider a life-challenge, I have observed that most principles and theories that hold true in a life-challenge will hold true in any challenge or life-experience.

The importance of a solid support system is one of those principles. It may not enable you to win the battle, but I believe it’s absence may cause you to loose. And as I mentioned this loss can be in many areas, simply, whatever challenges you take-on or are forced to face. The support system is like many other “Important” elements and as I said it’s presence is not essential to victory, but it’s absence may contribute to defeat. I firmly believe that a positive attitude falls into this category as well. The next “Important” element I will talk about is attitude, this is something I am a self-proclaimed expert on, and as always I am only sharing my experiences. Please always keep that in mind. I know at times I speak as if I am delivering facts, but in my mind if I believe it, or in it, then it is fact. When in reality you can certainly disagree with my views, and I would love to hear your views, and I also know that my views don’t work for everyone or in every situation. But they work for me, and as you know I’ve given them a test over the past 15-16 months!

Until next time,

Geoff
