Part 3 – Lets look at what’s important

Attitude

Today I am referring to your attitude when faced with a significant challenge. As I said previously, I believe that “Important” elements in a significant, life-challenge will also be “Important” elements of most every experience, especially challenges. Your attitude, which I would describe as your general and specific, predisposed and newly adopted, feelings that you possess in relation to an experience or situation, can have dramatic affects on your success in facing those given experiences or situations.

I feel attitude is perhaps the most important of the “Important” elements, as it can directly affect the strength and significance of your Support Network, as well as the effectiveness of your Approach, which will be discussed later, for example. Due to the affects of Attitude it places near the top of the “What’s Important” priority list. But as with many collections of thoughts like this one the priority of the elements will vary according to the situations and circumstances.

I often say that ‘attitude is everything’, and I firmly believe that. While it can’t necessarily conquer all, it can have a positive influence on most any situation. You always have choices, and life is made up of millions of choices. How we arrive at having to make these choices is something I don’t pretend to understand, nor do I wish to ponder that thought at this moment. But no matter what situation we are faced with we have choices relating to our behaviour towards or within that situation. The decision to choose a positive attitude is one of the most powerful choices we can make. I realize it can be very difficult to establish and maintain a positive attitude all the time. But I do know that when faced with you darkest hour, a positive attitude will serve you well.

With respect to my situation very early I came to accept that if I was to loose my fight then more would be accomplished by my loss than ever could have been accomplished had I won. This realization was the major step in my process of accepting my situation and challenge. I was very fortunate to have come to this realization early in my series, and have benefited from it ever since.

Accompanying this feeling was the notion that I wouldn’t trade places with anyone, at any time throughout my series. Again I really feel this feeling was the result of my acceptance of the situation. Once I reached this point my attitude took on another role. That role involved making essential day-to-day, and life-choices in response to my situation. As always, I believe, you can take the general structure of what I’m saying and apply it to many different life situations. Which I will do forever, and from time to time I will share those applications with you all.

You thoughts on my most recent train of thought would be appreciated. I write most of this stuff and send it without really thinking it through thoroughly, so I would love to know what you think of it. I have one more “Important” element that I will share with you very soon. Hope you have a great weekend and I’ll be back soon.
Take care,

Geoff
