This is a day marked on the calendar
For Cancer Patients and Supporters to remember
We can get together in a large group, or perhaps just have a quiet minute
To celebrate and reflect on life, and all things in it
Today is Cancer Survivors Day, and I’m not sure what that means to me
But in these next lines I’ll explore it and tell you my theory
Facing a Cancer Challenge as I like to call them
Can be very tough, scary, traumatic and daunting
The word Cancer brings out such fear in many
As a lot of us don’t like to think about death and it’s possibility
But I personally believe that Cancer is both a Challenge and Opportunity
And my experiences have provided great back-up for that theory
Every person, every Patient is different, we aren’t the same
Thus our strategies will differ depending on the setting of our game
But no matter what stage of life, or how different we may be
We are all members of the special Cancer community
To me this day is certainly about the Patients, but not exclusively
As there are some very important people who have cared for and touched me
They are the Patients who I met in hospital and shared stories
Their print is on my life, while they have taken on another Journey
Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacists, Physios, all special in their own way
Different roles, but the compassion comes through every day
I want you all you know what a difference you make in the lives of many
And I encourage you to keep taking advantage of that daily opportunity
My time around the hospital is inconsistent these days
There is a part of me that misses it in some ways
But I still go back for social calls regularly
To see my Patient friends who continue to inspire me
My parents, family, and friends have made great sacrifices in the last few years
Countless hours at the hospital, a million different ways showing me they care
This day is about them as much as anyone, as they may have the most important part
All the things they do, as we Patients struggle, I know it affects me right in my heart
I remember my friends who have passed and I celebrate my blessings on this Cancer Survivors Day
And to those who have touched me with their loving support, a big-time thank you is what I want to say
Always…
Live Life. Love Life.
