Remaining in Remission: Beautiful Day For A Climb

Hey everyone, quick message to all of you who are looked in an office building. It is a great day to Climb Signal Hill, and I hope if you are able, that you will join me on at the Hill, 6:00 p.m. for a 6:30 Climb.

For those of you who aren’t near St. John’s I encourage you to find a hill, a slope, a set of stairs, and climb at 6:30 p.m. Newfoundland time, as many of you have written saying you are planning to do.

It was 2 years ago today that I took those steps from my hospital bed at home to the couch about 10 feet away. When I left the ICU and hospital my Physio figured it would take me about 4-6 weeks to get back on my feet and walking with a walker. I assumed that was a Challenge, and focused on beating it. (The Odds are made to be beaten philosophy) And it was 2 ½ weeks after leaving hospital when I took my first steps, without my walker, and continued my road back to some comfortable level of independence.

Last year’s Climb was a beautiful day, just as it is today, and it was my first time Climbing the Hill since being diagnosed – almost 2 years prior at that point. I figured this year would be a much easier Climb, however, as we all know life is full of surprises and thanks to my most recent round of chemo today’s Climb will be much more of an effort than expected. But I have no trouble putting out the effort, and I know that the view from a top that Hill tonight will be as sweet a sight as I have seen.

You’ll hear from me again after I wind down from tonight’s events.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.

Geoff
