Who can participate and how?
Anyone who is interested can participate and there are a number of ways to do it. You can register online to shave off your locks (a cut of 10” or more counts as a shave) and raise money to support young adults dealing with cancer. If shaving is a little too extreme for you, you can raise money in support of a shaver or in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada in general.

How do I register?
When registration for the 2010 Shave for the Brave opens, we’ll provide the details here. Schools, workplaces or community shaves who wish to register at that time should contact (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Registered shavers receive a yellow “Shave for the Brave” toque on the day of the event to cover their newly smooth head!
What is the difference between a school and a community shaver?
School shavers would be those currently enrolled in school who register to shave through their school’s Head Hunter (shave organizer). School Shaves will start after February 1st, 2010, and will lead up to the Community Shaves. Community shavers are members of the general public who come to a public Community Shave to show their support for young adults dealing with cancer.
How bald do I have to go?
The Shave will be done with clippers by professional hairstylists and you’ll be left with about 1/8 of an inch of hair. If you wanna break out the shaving cream and razor afterward, go for it. Also, a cut of 10” counts as a shave, so if you have long hair, you can participate and keep some of your hair, too!
Where does the money go?
All funds raised through YACC events go directly toward supporting our programs for young adult cancer patients and survivors: the YACC Online Community, Retreat Yourself, Survivor Conference, We Get It - A Survivor Video, and Touch Yourself, Trust Yourself. Donations allow us to offer these programs at no cost to the young adults that truly need them. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
How do I raise money?
You will be able to raise money through our new online registration system which will allow you to send emails to friends, family, and co-workers for support, or by contacting us for a pledge sheet. Finally, if you have a supporter who isn’t Internet savvy and would like to make a donation by MasterCard or VISA, they can call Young Adult Cancer Canada’s offices at 579-7325 to make a pledge over the phone.
Who are cheques made payable to?
All cheques are to be made payable to Young Adult Cancer Canada.
How do I find out who donated on my behalf online?
If you register online, you will receive an automatic email when someone donates on your behalf. This way, you’ll get a chance to thank anyone who donated to you and bug anyone who you want to donate.
Where do I drop off donations I’ve received?
If you’re a school shaver, please bring your donations to your school on the day of your shave where there will be someone present to collect them before you go under the clippers. Community shavers should bring their donations on the day of the community event.
For those people who are not shaving but want to raise money to support a shaver or to generally support young adults dealing with cancer, pledges can be dropped off at Young Adult Cancer Canada’s offices at 120 Kenmount Road during office hours.
When and where do I get my toque?
You get your official yellow Shave for the Brave toque either at your school, work event, community event after you shave.
Are donations of dyed hair accepted?
Yes. Hair that has not been chemically-treated or dyed is preferred but dyed hair works, too. The only rule is that the donation must be of 10” in length or more - and it must be braided!
