Stop Thinking… Start Shaving!

The time to stop thinking and start shaving has come!  Join us for the 5th Annual Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) Shave for the Brave on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Avalon Mall in St. John’s, NL.  The time to grow your hair is now!  Everyone is doing it.

In addition to the St. John’s Community Shave, there will be one at Marble Mountain in Corner Brook on February 20, 2010, and another in Central Newfoundland (time and location to be determined).  See “Head Hunters” below to learn how to organize a shave at your school or place of business.

Shavers:

Last year, more than 825 fabulous shavers raised just under $200,000 which allowed us to provide more supportive and awareness events for young adults with cancer, than we ever have before. Here at Young Adult Cancer Canada, we have established some crazy, record-breaking fundraising goals for the 2010 Shave for the Brave that YOU can help us reach (We just know you can!). In addition to the Community Shave being held in St. John’s, there will be another in Corner Brook, and another in Central Newfoundland (location to be determined).

Our online registration system will be open toward the end of January.  After registering, you will be able to collect pledges and track your donations online – it makes raising money so very simple. 

Head Hunters:

If you are interested in participating - you can join us for the YACC Community Shave event at the Avalon Mall, OR you may want to consider being a Head Hunter (Shave Organizer) and hosting a shave at your school or place of business.  All it takes is one committed and motivated individual to inspire a ‘shave movement.’  Email (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or phone 1-877-571-7325 for more information.

Mane Mamas:

If you won’t be shaving this year, but know someone who is, we encourage you to become a Mane Mama and help support your shaver by wearing a button and helping to collect pledges for them! As soon as the buttons are available you’ll be able to order them on this website.

Donors:

Our online donation system will be open toward the end of January. You can give to a registered shaver, to a team, or to YACC in general. If you prefer not to donate online, you may call us at 1-877-571-7325 or mail to: Shave for the Brave, YACC, Box 8171, St. John’s, NL, A1B 3M9. Please make cheques payable to Young Adult Cancer Canada. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $10 or more at the request of the donor and with full mailing address, including postal code. Email delivery is preferred.

The Plain Truth:

18 young adults in Canada are diagnosed with cancer each day.  At Young Adult Cancer Canada, our mission is to help every Canadian young adult deal with cancer by providing inspiration, information and support.  Your participation in the Shave for the Brave and support of Young Adult Cancer Canada is instrumental in helping those who exemplify all that is ‘brave’ - that is, all of the young adults across Canada who are dealing with cancer.
