Summer, 2002: Can’t Forget What

Last message I was talking about “how” we approach things in our life, and I do feel that the choices we make every day relating to how we approach life and all things in it, they determine our happiness, and our interaction and experiences with the world. I fully believe that we all create our own experiences, choices we make every day create our experiences. I believe that as strongly as I believe anything.

The other idea I mentioned last message was ‘what’ we do, and I do feel that how we do what we do is the most important thing. Especially when we are looking at making an impact on the world. However when it comes to making an impact on our internal world, i.e. our own happiness and experience, I feel what we do has a major influence. What we do can relate to our free time, our work, our hobbies, whatever, and it is my belief that most every thing we do can be done in a way that adds to our experience here, and the experiences of others.

Whether you are a nurse, or a clerk, a teacher, or a secretary, I believe that you can do your job in a way that is satisfying to you and gives some of you to those you interact with.

Now here is where the my thoughts about ‘what’ come into play… I think one of the most important decisions we ever make in this life, and we make it many times every day, is the decision about what we do. I spoke at another Entrepreneurship camp this morning and I talked to the campers about dreams, specifically having them, and then going after the ones you want. We talked specifically about work, but that theory applies to everything in life. Your work may not be your dream but if it helps to allow you to pursue your dream then it’s a major part of your dream.

I happen to feel that I’m the luckiest guy in the world, because I fully completely love what I do, wouldn’t want to do anything else right now, my work is much more like play. And I love it that way. So what I’ve managed to do is create a situation where I love “what” I do, and every day I make the effort to ensure “how” I do what I do is aligned with principles and beliefs that I feel are important.

The words integrity, honesty, compassion, impact/influence, responsibility, Positive, Attitude, those are words that I have chosen to incorporate into my life, on the work and play side of things. I happen to have a weak spot for the word CAN, which I write with capitals cause I believe it’s such a great word it deserves it, and also the word Opportunity, specifically opportunities to make a Positive impact in a way that sits right with those principles and beliefs I mentioned above. Speaking with those campers this morning has reminded me of the importance of ‘what’ we do, and I can’t think of anything more worth your time and effort than chasing your dreams, whatever they are.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.
