Summer, 2002: Coming Down

Hey everyone, back from the hospital a while ago where I met with my Doc and things are progressing a little. My side isn’t near as tender as at the start of the weekend, and my liver functions are coming down a little. They are still sky high, but the trend is moving the right way, so that’s good news. Also had an ultrasound this morning, which I was told is pretty routine and almost never reveals anything… should have the results from that later this week, but I don’t expect to hear anything unless they discover something “exciting”.

Still working through this flu, but I really think I sound worse than I feel, have a cough and sound congested but my lungs are clear and so is my congestion – to get really detailed! hehe – so with a few days rest I will hopefully be back to active rebuilding, which is something I’ve missed in the past few weeks. Between the golf tournament and getting sick last week, it’s been a while since I’ve been physically active, and I think those 3 pounds I put on have drifted away!!

Those of you who have been with me for a while may remember me writing on occasion about “sometimes you just have to roll the dice”. Well tonight is one of those times. About 2 years ago last week, I was in Toronto after my first Transplant, and I had been delayed from coming home as my blood levels had dropped and we didn’t know why. Want that meant, was that I was to stay in Toronto for an extra 3 weeks, which was a real bummer at the time of hearing the news… however there are always Positives in our struggles!! And one of those Positives at that time was I would now be in Toronto at the same time as one John Mellencamp, who happens to be my favourite artist. And I decided that there were reasons I had been delayed 3 weeks, and one of those reasons was that I was meant to see Mellencamp, which I did, and still cherish the memories.

Back then that was rolling the dice quite a bit, as I was just over 2 months Post-Transplant, and I was very susceptible to any infection, but I weighed the risks and rolled the dice. Tonight I won’t be rolling the dice with anywhere near the risks, but I will be taking in another favourite band of mine that I haven’t seen in a couple of years. A live rock concert is one of my favourite things in the world, and I’m jacked to be able to take another in tonight, as I wasn’t sure it would be possible a couple of hours/days ago. Tonight’s activities will be followed by another kind of R&R, as I’ll recharge and then look to put those 3 pounds back on.

I will be keep you updated should things change with my insides, and I’m sure you’ll hear from me again soon either way.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.

Geoff
