Summer, 2002: Wait and See

Hey everyone, I’ve been to the hospital, where I spent a little of the morning, had more blood tests and saw a Doc. The news of the day is that there’s not much happening right now. Haven’t got the results of my blood work from today yet, but they won’t really influence what we do from here, unless they are really out of whack. As having two days worth of tests isn’t really enough info on which to base any decisions, as my Doc explained, we don’t know if my liver functions are on the way up or down compared with how they were earlier in the week, for example. We did more extensive blood tests today and the plan is to repeat them again on Tuesday morning, at which time I’ll also have an ultrasound and see my Docs again.

My liver is definitely enlarged, and seems to be the cause of my pain, which has increased a little today, but it’s not unbearable. Just a constant discomfort really.

My Doc explained that the most likely reason behind the increased functions is a virus which is located in or affecting my liver. And there aren’t any major treatments for that possibility, depending on what it is, what kind of virus, I may start some drugs next week once we learn a little more, or very possibly I’ll just lay low and let the virus run it’s course, if it is a virus.

I am under strict instructions, as always, that if I spike a temperature, start to vomit, or basically generally don’t feel well… it’s straight to the hospital. So far this week, even when my flu was kicking me around a little, my temp was fine. Hopefully things will stay that way, I’ll have a good relaxing weekend and we’ll learn more on Tuesday with more blood work and the ultrasound.

Should things change in between now and then, you’ll hear about it. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty well, a little tired, which seems to be normal for blood levels like mine, and my side is more tender today, but I’m comfortable enough and will plan to stay this way through the weekend. Have a fantastic Canada Day weekend and you’ll hear from me again soon.

Always…
Live Life. Love Life.
