Thanks for all the love, Holyrood!

Holyrood, NL came through in a big way again this year!
Saturday, June 23 marked the 11th Annual Darryl Gorman Memorial Walk in support of YACC. First and foremost, we want to say thank you to everyone who walked, organized (especially Bridget Hynes), donated, or showed up at Furey’s!
Special thanks goes to VOCM Road Show Host Rebecca Dawe and local volunteer firefighters for coming out to help kickstart the walk.
Every year, residents of Holyrood and the surrounding areas are very generous toward the cause, and this year was no exception. In fact, this year’s walk brought in the largest revenue of any so far–more than $7,323.21! This brings the event’s eleven year total to more than $55,000.00! We are so grateful to everyone who made this possible, as it means that we are able to help more young adult cancer survivors through our web-based and face-to-face programs.
The top six fundraisers were awarded prizes this year. Congratulations to the following participants:

  1. Marry Barron: $1,438
  2. Rose Doran: $704
  3. Mabel Murray: $635
  4. Jennifer Ezekiel: $495
  5. Jackie Doran: $428
  6. Maggie Ghaney: $382

Darryl was a 16-year-old cancer buddy of Geoff’s who passed away in 1999 after battling testicular cancer. His family has been honouring his memory each year since 2001 with the 5.3 km walk from the Royal Canadian Legion 64 in Holyrood, NL through the community to Furey’s pub.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2013 walk!
