Within my grasp

Good Monday everyone. I’m a little sore today as I had a really good workout yesterday, relatively speaking of course. I am really gaining strength and while I knew a return to my old form was attainable, I was unsure of the time frame. However I am feeling quite confident today that I will make my return to many of my “loves” by summer. Yesterday, for the first time, I actually increased my lifting weight, which again is still relatively low in comparison with a normal person my size, but it is amazingly high in comparison to the Geoff of 6 months ago.

The last 4 weeks have seen my activity take on another big jump, and I am feeling the positive affects of it. I actually ran up the stairs the other day, first time I’ve done that in a while. My legs continue to grow and are beginning to look something like my legs of old, although due to my summer weight gain I look like I gave birth to about 17 kids. Stretch marks. I’m sure many of the ladies can relate. But it is only cosmetic, and I view them as ‘war wonds’. Since early last Fall I have had it in my mind that I wanted to be back on the soccer field this summer, and for quite sometime I didn’t know if that would be possible. However lately I am growing confident that with lots of hard work it is within my grasp.

Of course my two major physical setbacks from the past 6 months have been related to dropping my Prednisone, which I still have to conquer. I am still taking 5 mg/day, which is a very low dose, but as I have mentioned in the past, the last few mg’s are the most difficult to drop. The tentative plan is to begin dropping again next week, assuming all else goes well and my blood remains stable.

Finally I have been continuing my trend of great thoughts, and been writing a lot lately. Not quite sure what it all means yet but I am working through it. And I have submitted my article to the Leukemia Research Fund of Canada, and it will appear in the April/May version of their national newsletter which will be highlighting the events of June, Leukemia month. If I can’t get you all a copy of the newsletter I’ll be sure to send you a copy of the article.

Continuing to rebuild, making progress. Take care.

Geoff
