Another way to flatten COVID-19? Roll it.

COVID-19 disrupted a lot of things, including how charities like Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) are able to fundraise and support our programming. As we learn new ways to go to school, work, socialize, and operate, 22 young adults are still hearing “you have cancer” in Canada each day.

Access to YACC’s supportive community has never been more important as these young adults are facing diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, isolation, and uncertainty in an more isolated and uncertain society. So, we’re grabbing our wheels and hitting the asphalt to help them connect with a peer community that “gets it.”

“Being an engrained member of YACC provides me a wealth of connection with other cancer thrivers who truly get it. The programs and people have helped with my self-esteem, mental well-being, and has been a source of confidence,” said Alex Mandarino, 26, diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Any wheel. Any distance. Anywhere.

Roller Brave is a cross-Canada virtual “relay” where participants set independent distance, deadline, and fundraising goals on wheels of their choosing. Grab your rollerblades, bikes, strollers, skateboards, scooters—whatever rolls—and sign up!

The collective goal of raising $80,000 to ensure more young adults affected by cancer have access to a community that will have their backs in the middle of the night when they’re worried about scans, offer stories about their own experiences with treatment and medications, and chat about the unique challenges they face when diagnosed with cancer in the prime of their lives.

We start tracking kilometres on August 1, 2020 and we’ll roll until we reach the other side!
