Day 27 – Steady and Free Again

That’s right the counts are up and fairly steady this time, white cells of 1.0 the last 2 days while hemoglobin and platelets are rising as well. Of course the good old Neutrophils are taking their time, 0.2 today, but SO FAR I’m being patient. That said I am starting to get a little weary of my environment, I haven’t been outside in over a month. Now that I think about it I’ve only been outside my room 2 or 3 times since then as well, although that is mostly my decision as I am allowed out in the nights. But you know since the playoffs have started I don’t quite feel like a nighttime walk at 8:00, which is kind of “the walk time”. Still on the bike several times a day which feels great some days and is a little tough some others.

I believe I told you all a little while ago that I was unhooked, from my pole and pump. Well unfortunately the next day was a little tough for me so I was unable to drink my recommended 3 litres, which resulted in a re-marriage to my pole and pump. Well this relationship has taken a turn for the better once again as I have rid myself of the old “ball and chain”, so to speak. This time I will hopefully be able to keep my ‘friend’ at bay for the next several days, at the end of which I hope to be out of here. During my daily visit from my Doc she informed me that it is possible to make the jump from protective isolation to “transplant freedom”, which is a little different than normal freedom but still quite desirable for me at this point. Again, just waiting for my Neutrophils to hit 0.5 two consecutive days.

Interesting Note: During the past 3 games my counts have been classified as “slow” to come back, the quickest time was in Game 1 – 38 days officially. The other games were over 40 days, I mentioned this to one of my Doc’s and he said that this time that trend would not necessarily be applicable. But for the record, by my count, which sees the first day of treatment called Day 1, today is Day 36. Just thought I would pass that along as a consistent point of reference.

I’ll keep you posted on the count progress and will give you a peak into the discharge procedures and my new ‘rules’ when it is appropriate.

Take care.
Stay tuned, we’re getting close.
