Geoff’s blog: Some COVID clarity

After COVID-19 changed everything, I was in a haze for a long time. The mad consumption of news, pandemic, shutdown, spiral, spiral, and more spiral. I finally pulled myself out of it.

Pivots, change, new normal, yes. All true. In times of madness I lean on the constants even more than usual.

My go-to constant is buried in the centre of me; it’s where I keep my dreams, fuelled by thoughts from my mind and energy from my heart. These dreams are the pictures I have created that I move towards every day. There are tons of them — sometimes they are destinations, sometimes signs, sometimes guardrails to keep me on the road.

They are fun and super important and they are nothing much without fuel — energy — to move towards them. The desire to put one foot in front of the other, this is within you. Sometimes it fades, sometimes it’s hard to control, this is all normal, especially in wild times like these.

Your fuel and your dreams are a supremely powerful combination to help you turn the madness of yesterday into something more constant and solid on which you can create your today.

If COVID has reminded me of anything, it’s that I’m still and always in control of me, my thoughts, my dreams, and how I use my fuel. Focusing on that is the most important thing I do for myself, my own happiness, and the happiness of those around me.

YACC is here to support young adults with, through, and beyond cancer — 8,000 lives a year hammered just the way COVID has hammered the masses. We offer them incredible programs to help get clear on what’s most important to them, practical things they can do to move forward, and the fuel to stay on this road.

Today we start Survivor Conference 20/20: Virtual, our biggest “pivot” of the past two months. We are super pumped to have 250+ YACCers gather. The delivery is new, but the connections and community remain constants. My words to them tonight: Get clear on the future you want and let’s go create it together. Every cancer, every stage, YACC’s got your back.

Always…
Live life. Love life.

Geoff
