I recieved a friendly email yesterday telling me some of the links on our Links page were no longer active so I took a few minutes to make sure they were up to date.
It hasn’t been that long since we last culled the expired addresses, but there was an astonishing amount that were no longer valid. In a short amount of time, young adult cancer survivors have lost access to blogs, websites, and programs that used to offer resources, opportunities, inspiration, and support.
The poignancy of that task on the day before our 12th Anniversary Charity Golf Tournament was not lost on me.
Just 12 years ago, this organization was comprised of one person with a lot of ideas. Now it is a team of 11 people in three cities across the country and a dedicated Board of Directors. Our programs are established and evolving with the average demand sitting around 167 per cent occupancy. We are surrounded by a community of hundreds of survivors, supporters, health professionals, and friends whose passion, support, and knowledge fuel us every day.
We have done a lot of great things in 12 years, and have a million ideas about what else we can do to help young adults living with cancer in Canada.
I’d like to say Happy Anniversary and congratulations to everyone who has helped make this another successful year at YACC, whether you are in our offices or not. Here’s to many more fantastic years to come!
