Localife Ottawa: It’s (probably) not what you’re thinking

It was a dark, cold evening on September 25, 2015. Seven souls braved the extreme chill and wandered into the darkness. Why were they outside? What were their plans?

As they began to gather outside a little hut under the glow of two small lights, it all became clear.

They were preparing to do something. Something fun? Something evil? What were their plans?

They gathered some coloured balls — orange, red, green, pink, purple, and of course, blue balls. They then picked up some oddly shaped sticks. Following the red signs, they made their way up the short path into the clearing. Let the games begin!

Splitting off into two groups, they began their quest to get the balls to their targets. All the balls. All the targets. There were tremendous roars of laughter as balls went flying in all directions. Some got lost in the bushes and needed to be replaced. Others were knocked off course. Some were fortunate enough to make it there with one shot.

As the group finished their last round, they then followed the blue signs and made their way to a second course. Buy one get the second course free. So of course took advantage of this. Thirty-six holes, two lost balls, our group was done. All that was left was to add up the scores and see who would be declared the winner. But really, there was no winner. Everyone was a winner.

The group then made their way to a super busy Jack Astor’s with live a live DJ. They squeezed themselves tightly into a booth and the good times continued. The conversations kept flowing as the appetizers made their way to the table. A well-deserved snack. Everyone had fun and everyone left will bellies full.

Though many questioned this event as the one to start off our Localife season (it was a very polarizing activity), all those who attended thought it was great. It was a perfect way to set the tone for the rest of the activities we have planned this season.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next event later this month! We will be taking advantage of the fall colours. That’s the only clue you get for now.

Since you won’t hear from us until afterwards — Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

P.S. In case you couldn’t tell, our first event was mini-putting!
