We iced cancer!

sc2016

From June 9-13, 75 young adult cancer survivors and supporters gathered in St. John’s, NL for our annual Survivor Conference. The theme this year was “Ice Cancer” as we planned to put cancer on ice for four days, and did a little (successful) ice berg hunting for good measure. We kicked off the event with some icebreakers, and according to the evaluation forms, they were just the ticket needed by some to really dive in, get comfortable, and feel like they were in the right place.

The next few days featured workshops on everything from processing through storytelling, dealing with anxiety, coping with fatigue, activism, caregiving, different types of movement exercises, and more! We also made sure to show off our hometown with team building events at Cape Spear and Signal Hill before ending the event by hopping in our time machine and heading back to one of the greatest dance parties the 1980s ever saw!

Big thanks to all of our participants for being so open and awesome, to our speakers and presenters for stepping outside their comfort zones and providing much needed info and tools, to our sponsors and donors for providing the necessary funding and remaining engaged long after the event wrapped up, to the Holiday Inn for excellent service, to our emcee Kathy Stock for keeping us entertained and engaged all weekend, and to DJ Nu Rock for playing all the classic hits we needed to hear.

We hope to see many of you again next year!
